News from the Farm

Since we are on the north side of the mountain, we are building a wine/root cellar to store our potatos and fruit wines. Walking on the hill, we found two giant rocks that seemed to say “enter here”. We were ever mindful that we were invading the earth, using only hand tools and saving the rich dirt in the forest for our ginseng bed. As it turned out, it was so much fun! (We had blessings all along the way) The rocks formed a jigsaw puzzle, so we had to start sometimes 4 feet away, jiggling smaller rocks to loosen the big ones. Soon we became aware that the cellar would be the shape the earth would have it, not us, so we joyfully followed the puzzle, unraveling and creating space where she would allow. It isnt done yet, but I think the carved out portion is. It turned out so beautiful. a narrow passageway opening and sinking down into a perfectly round well.
